Drag 'em up.

This series began after one of the Zagreb Pride events, when a friend of mine got in contact with one of the drag performers he had photographed. He was later invited to photograph them and, in turn, invited me to join him. What started as simply tagging along eventually introduced me to a part of Zagreb's drag and queer community that I hadn't previously been involved in.

Together, we began photographing drag performers and events as volunteer photographers, i.e. not as paid work, but as a way of supporting the community and giving the performers quality photographs they could use to present themselves and their work on social media. Through this, I gradually became more familiar with the people behind the performances and the amount of work, creativity, and personality that goes into creating a drag persona.

I became especially interested in the transformation itself: the makeup, costumes, exaggerated expressions, movement, and the playful relationship with gender and identity. What initially began with simply accompanying my friend eventually became a photographic series and, more importantly, an opportunity to meet and document a community I might otherwise never have encountered.
